Somebody heard about UNA antivirus.
It is good?
UNA antivirus. What is it? Tell me.

Seems to be a Ukraine Natinal Antivirus (hence UNA) effort.

=> No, it isn't. It needs ALOT of work, if its to be an effective product.

Out of the 3 popular free ones (AVG Free Edition, AntiVir Personal Edition,
and avast! 4 Home Edition); avast! 4 Home Edition performs the
best in terms of detection rates.

The newest version seems to be more effective with new monitoring features.

(The problem is, it tends to eat alot of RAM. This can be reduced by disabling
monitoring features you don't use...If you don't use chat programs, disable
monitoring of that.)

Otherwise, consider a paid AV solution.

As I know UNA was updating its virus base during last testing.Now its base enlarged in twice. I've seen this program got chekmark level 1 at the end of February 2005 http://www.westcoastlabs.org/cm-av-prod ... 8&Cat_ID=1. We can only see future results

Both posters are using ISPs which are from Kiev, Ukraine.

Look, I don't care if you folks talk about a product and even pimp about it, BUT if you can't prove the product is just as effective as other well-known products (or better) in detailed tests, then don't bother.

You can request that UNA be in the test and see how well it does against others.

The tests here => http://www.westcoastlabs.org seem extremely limited.
It targets what's already out there, and does not demostrate the ability of AV solutions picking up the difficult nasties that is not so widespread. (ie : Heuristics testing)

Under this testing condition, any AV solution can pass and be awarded with some "checkmark".

It was pretty obvious after their second post that they have some involvement with software. For them, may I say without reservation or favouritism: FOAD

You know, this is the 5th time in my whole web surfin experience, that owners/coders/developers of a product pretend to be some sort of average Jane/Joe asking about a product. (Which they developed!)

The worst case is in silentpcreview.com forums, where the owner of Silenx signed up their forums multiple times to act like users...So he was having a conversation with himself! And promoting his own products!

Fortunately enough, the way he was chatting to himself didn't seem right and raised suspicion among the Moderators. After a quick check of their IP addresses, it was found to be the same person! So if you ever visit silentpcreview.com forums for some low-noise PC advice, do a search of Silenx and you see how they feel about it.

As for SilenX products, I haven't tried them. I hear they are good if you undervolt their fans.
